Intercessory Prayer Ministry

“To believe that our praying makes a difference, and to pray even when it seems that we cannot act, is to link ourselves with Christ in his ongoing intercession, since “He always lives to make intercession for us.””(Hebrews 7:25)

This huge and powerful statement is from a very small book named Unless We Pray by Maxie Dunnan.  “In Jesus name we pray”...how many time in our lives have we ended a prayer this way?  Christ is the Eternal Intercessor, forever interceding with God on our behalf.  It is only natural that we possess that same desire to intercede on behalf of others for whom we care and love.  So………….

Would you like to be a part of starting an Intercessory Prayer Ministry at FUMC?

This is how it works: Our “prayer room” will be the Parlor, which is a quiet place in our church, perfect for prayer. A schedule is made with each volunteer selecting the day & the hour each week they want to pray. Each volunteer prays for many different needs.  Sometimes they pray for the safety of travelers; sometimes for a difficult situation or a desire for reconciliation during a troubling time; and sometimes it is a prayer of joy for healing. A notebook is kept in the prayer room, in which prayer requests are listed, which is all confidential. Cards and note cards will be in the Parlor secretary, so that volunteers can write notes to people on the prayer list, then take them to the church office for mailing. Devotional materials will also be available for reading.

The hour spent in the prayer room can be one of the most special times for us during our busy week.  The hour will fly by!  No distractions, absolute quiet, alone with God, praying earnestly for another person, completely focused on that person’s well-being.  You cannot help but feel God’s presence and His power.

There is much pain and suffering for many in our church and in our community--- some people we know and some we do not know.  Some people on our lists may never be relieved of their pain and suffering in this world, but through our intercessory prayer, we reveal God’s love to every person simply by loving and caring enough to pray for them.

Think about this.....How could the quality of the time and the energy we spend with others change if we prayed for them?  Find out for yourself!  Let’s fill up every hour of the day, every day of the week with someone praying for another person in our prayer room.  The rewards of one hour of prayer will far outweigh the time we give up during the week.  Who knows what could happen from our prayers?  One thing for sure is, if we do not pray, we will never know what the possibilities might have been.

Contact me to volunteer and become a part of Atmore First United Methodist Church’s Intercessory Prayer Ministry.  It will change your life....................I promise.
