Congregational Care

Happy New Year!

If you are like me, you are still sorting through your house looking for items that were stashed away in the preparation for the holidays. I am finding Christmas cards in strange places but cannot for the life of me find my ‘to do’ list from last week! There are important things that need to be addressed, and one of those is to review and improve on several areas. My goal is to get organized by the end of January.

Similarly, the congregational care committee has met to sort through ideas, improve on some things, add some new ministries, and refine our attempts at nurturing the membership of Atmore  First United Methodist. The hardest part is being realistic; we want to do so much but must recognize that being effective with a few programs is better that attempting many programs without much success.

We do know that we are not limited by the numbers on this committee. Always in the past, you have stepped up to help whenever called upon. Most of us are on more than one committee and help in the ministry of our church in several different areas. And that is what makes us a united group of people with shared interests and goals. It keeps us connected to one another.

Our plans this year include visiting, providing food and transportation when needed, card ministry, military outreach, and bereavement meals. This congregation includes people of all ages and stages of life; we want to include everyone in our ministry.

You can help us now by informing us of your needs. If you know of a program that we could provide, please give that suggestion to one of us. If you can provide assistance with any of the programs we already offer, please let us know. If you know of anyone who needs our ministry, please contact me or the office.

We are all a work in progress. If you stop growing, there is just one other option: not growing. We want to be a people with willing hearts and eager hands and always working toward a higher calling. We want to serve our Lord and His people.

For His cause,

Carol Crook, chairperson
